The best of a true child of God only comes out when the taught pattern is equal or synonymous to that of the Father. This article is to examine if truly we see, think, act, and judge like our Father when relating with that man who is by all standard a sinner. So much personal hatred for other men by so many Christian that one wonders if that's the approach God took or instructed believers to take. From ancient time, suppose children of God will not eat, drink or relate with any man who sin. The dispensation of law actually permitted such ill feeling towards sinner according to provision in the laws of God through Moses. But does that represent the verdict of God for Sinners in the season of grace? Some Christian are even faster than God to pronounce judgement of death penalty because they see sinners beyond redemption. We don't want him/her to be free from the errors. Let us quickly check Jesus Christ approach to Sinner to find out what God expect of our generation. Does He hate or love Sinners.
And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat. And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner. And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on. There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most? Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged. And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet. My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment. Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven. And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?
Luke 7:36-49 KJV
Jesus was generous to a sinful man by visiting his life and home. There was another woman who came thirsty for Jesus in her life. She doesn't know how to pray; but excellent in showing love. She expressed her weakness at the same time her act of love. Jesus saw a woman who needed help to be free from Satan turning her love life upsidedown. But all the suppose holy men around couldn't see her tears but her continuous romance of Jesus Christ even in the public place. They saw a shameless woman and spiritually insensitive and canal Jesus Christ.
Let us quickly establish some truth. Jesus was the subject of her supposed sexual harassment but the illustration given clearly portrayed men who are anxious, interested or guilty as a result of their previous relationship with the woman. All her action was reflecting different interpretation to Jesus Christ and the acclaimed holy men around. Jesus Christ was positive about all her moves in contrast to the men. These confirmed the scripture as a man think in his heart so is he. Many of our expression as Christian about a sinner is because our own heart is faulty. Those men were getting drawn away to the woman because of the lust in their eyes and flesh but covered it up with pretentious holiness. Pure hearts will be full of compassion for sinner but hatred for sin and the Devil the author of sin.
Jesus Christ is committed to forgiveness of all sin with greater compassion for terrible and condemned sinners. He confirmed that such people because they received much love from God, they in turn will reciprocate with great love for God. No wonder the people that manifested more in the supernatural are men who constantly acknowledged their unworthiness.
Jesus Christ never condernmed any man for sinning, rather He condemned sin to free the man. He acted that way not because the woman we are describing was sorry for her sin. It was reflection of God's love than our desire for forgiveness. There was another woman in similar trouble, who was in the very act of sin. The church found her extremely guilty and she wasn't thinking of seeking for mercy and forgiveness.
And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. John 8:3-11 KJV
Here again we can see another judgement and condemnation by the law. Man always forget the mirror of law cannot justify anybody but grace does. The Christian that condemned another man of sin is a judge according to the flesh. He too must be a sinner when search through by the Holy Spirit. John 8:15. Many are held by sin but they sincerely long to be free like any true believe but they lack the knowledge required for such freedom. There come need for fulfilment; the ministry of reconciliation that Christ has called us into.
Maybe I should ask again. Do you love the man in that sinner enough to show compassion and intercede for his soul? How long will it take before we the new generation Christian understand our mission and calling are those men we abandon in the hand of the devil because we have judged them irredeemable. At this junction, it is important for us understand that condoning sin in a sinner is as evil as condemning the man in a sinner. Our target as a soul winner is eliminating sin and elevating the man. Therefore love for any man is the key to cover his multitude of sin. Apostle Paul understood the message of love for sinner and hatred for sin. Thus he reduced himself to the level of all men to gain their souls for Christ. A believer who is afraid of falling into sin by relating with sinner obviously need spiritual reawakening. Many misinterpreted this going into mission of soul winning to ordinary friendship. While mission for the world brings salvation friendship with thesame birth enmity with God. Setting mission purpose in relating to sinners will birth compassion and love for their souls rather than sensual love for them or complete hatred. That is Jesus Christlike approach.
