Where will our souls be before Judgement?
This is one major question man ask about death, judgement, heaven and hell.
We all want to know what happen to us immediately we died. Will our souls immediately go to heaven, hell or wonder around the earth.
“Later, Lazarus died. The angels took him and placed him in the arms of Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried. He was sent to the place of death and was in great pain. He saw Abraham far away with Lazarus in his arms.Luke 16:22-23 ERV
The account here suggested that dead Lazarus was taken and placed in Abraham arms (place of rest, Jesus called it Paradise, it was also referred to as heaven in some scriptures). On the order hand the buried rich was taken to the place of death(Sheol, Hade, Hell). We can clearly see that two different places were available as temporary destination.
Were they taken immediately after death? If we follow closely this account was narrated by Jesus Christ who is the resurrection and life. The scripture below will give us more insight
When Jesus died, the curtain in the Temple was torn into two pieces. The tear started at the top and tore all the way to the bottom. Also, the earth shook and rocks were broken. The graves opened, and many of God’s people who had died were raised from death. They came out of the graves. And after Jesus was raised from death, they went into the holy city, and many people saw them. Matthew 27:51-53 ERV
From this scripture we can deduces that everyone in the old testament were in their grave until Crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ. Part of the event at crucifixion and resurrection was also the first judgement( I.e all old testament dead came out of their graves, resurrected with Jesus and went with Him into holy city.) That was similar place He called Paradise for the saved thief. Those who did evil according to law were sent like the rich man to the place of death.
Brethren, if you will agree with me. All dead souls were in the grave before this first resurrection. It was at that time event of Abraham, Lazarus and the rich in Heaven(Paradise) or Hell(place of death) make meaning. I will submit that some people are in heaven and hell now after Jesus first coming. Those will refers to as people who died under law.
Now coming back to time of grace. We that are waiting for Christ second coming. I wish to let you know brethren that; just as people of old were in the grave before Jesus resurrection and ascension. Dead in Christ will also rest in grave until Christ come again.
Brothers and sisters, we want you to know about those who have died. We don’t want you to be sad like other people—those who have no hope. The Lord himself will come down from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. And the people who have died and were in Christ will rise first. After that we who are still alive at that time will be gathered up with those who have died. We will be taken up in the clouds and meet the Lord in the air. And we will be with the Lord forever. 1 Thessalonians 4:13,16-17 ERV.
Taking closer look at this verses. It is evidence that our soul will be in state of rest waiting for Christ to resurrect us at His second coming. Just as we cannot account for where our soul is every night we had a deep sleep. In natural sleep we are neither fully here on earth or heaven. Except some few nights of dreams and revelations. No man can boldly explain the state of his/her soul in sleep. Such is the position of our soul in death. It will come back to life again when Jesus will appears to give us immortal lively body and likewise condemnation to the ungodly who refuses Jesus as their saviour. Don't be deceived brethren, from both old time and now, men are design to be in their graves resting until Christ come.
Now in conclusion, the third part which I believe we should also be knowledgeable about is what the account in the scripture below tried to portrait.
And I saw those who had died, great and small, standing before the throne. Some books were opened. And another book was opened—the book of life. The people were judged by what they had done, which is written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it. Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them. All these people were judged by what they had done. And Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This lake of fire is the second death. And anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:12-15 ERV
This happen to be the final laps of all events here on earth. If you notice this scripture pointed out that dead from all the location mentioned earlier i.e from hell, place of death, graves(land or sea) and those in Paradise. All will receive final judgement of rewards base on their works and eternal home will be delivered. Either paradise or hade is temporary. It will interest you from above scripture that lake of fire is the final judgement for sinner of all ages including those in hell now. While Heaven where God is will be given to the righteous from all ages with different crowns.
I pray this revelation will draw us closer to God. Holy Spirit will open our eyes to more mysteries in Jesus name. Amen
